Thatched Cottage

A scouting trip around the Isle of Wight for September's Virtual Paintout brought me to this ancient thatched cottage. Originally built in the 1600s, it now serves as lodging. Wish I could go see it for real!

  1. Really really nice, I found the same cottage but couldn't figure out how to paint it! Great job!

  2. Such a lovely painting, I was drawn to it when I first saw it on FB on VP page, I live in Australia but came from the UK and we always holidayed as children on the Isle of Wight

    1. Thank you, Lorraine. It must be extra interesting for you to see the paintings on VP this month from a place you are familiar with!

  3. Thank you, Kelly! I worked wet on damp for probably 95% of this painting. It's a tricky way to work but it gives you more time to think of the next step and watch the painting evolve (or make mud). ;)

  6. This is jaw-dropping gorgeous! If we had a Best of Show Award, I'd give it to you. I've come back to "visit" this several times (on FB) and sighed with pleasure each time. Outstanding, truly.

A confession... I was going to do a thatched cottage, too. But when I saw this, I changed my location! :-D))))

Off to work on mine now. Hopefully it'll be done before the end of the month.
    ;-)

Again, thank you for giving us such enjoyment!

    1. I'm so happy to hear this painting had a positive impact on you! This was one of those rare paintings that almost painted itself. Love it when that happens. Thank you for making my day, Retta! Good luck with your VP painting!
